Prefect System

All Sixth Formers have the opportunity to take part in a Prefect System where they will accept responsibilities throughout the school.

Students need to apply for this important post and they are then put into Prefect Teams. These are run by Senior Prefects and the Deputy Head Boy and Girl have overall charge.

Prefects are responsible for representing the school in after-school activities, assisting at school functions, and supervising younger students as they move around the school.

Bullywatch

All sixth formers have the opportunity to train as counsellors in Active Listening.

They will then be linked to a tutor group where they will help with issues such as bullying. This is a successful scheme that not only improves the environment for all students but looks good on our Sixth Former's UCAS forms!

Extra-Curricular Activities On Offer

A carefully designed programme is planned each year, and might include:

Enrichment Activities
These include going on educational visits to places of interest, listening to attending speakers such as prominent politicians or religious leaders and attending Study Skills sessions to improve learning and revision.

ECDL
European Computer Driving Licence - we are able to offer students the opportunity to achieve the new ECDL that is now recognised by businesses around Europe and an important qualification for anyone considering a career in the NHS.

CHYPS
As well as having the opportunity to become a Prefect and a trained Bullywatch Counsellor, we can also offer you the opportunity to train with Gwent NHS as a 'Befriender' for families who have experienced cancer. This is an accredited course and an extremely worthwhile experience.

Hilston Park
You will also have the opportunity to develop your Team Building skills in many different activity holidays. One of these is a camping, canoeing and climbing weekend at Hilston Park that always prove popular with the Sixth Form.

Public Speaking and Debating
- Our Sixth Form regularly competes in the CEWC School Debating Championships as well as the Rotary Public Speaking Competition. We also take part in the Crown Prosecution Service Mock Trials.
