"Can I buy any school uniform through the school office?"

No.  The school office only hold a small number of School ties (which are available at £4 each).  School Uniform should be purchased from John Lewis Department Store, Cribbs Causeway, The Mall, Bristol.  Telephone no:  0117 959 1100.  They do offer a postal service.

"Do students have to have a new Bus Behaviour Card every year?"

No - the cards issued in Year 7 can be used for every subsequent year of school.

"How do I find out about school holidays and INSET days?"

All term dates and inset days are available on the website under Calender / Term Dates / Inset Dates and are also shown on our School Calendar 2007-2008 - available from the School Office at £3.00 each.

"Should Year 12 students attend school every day, even if they have 'free' periods?"

Yes, all Year 12 students are expected to be in school from 8.45am to 3.15pm during the first term.  Consideration is then given to each individual.

"Are there lockers available to store equipment and outdoor clothing?"

Yes, lockers are available throughout the school.  A refundable deposit of £4.00 is payable, which is refundable upon return of the key.  All Year 7 students are offered this facility, but have to return the key at the end of Year 7.  Students in Years 8, 9, 10 are encouraged to share lockers as availability is sometimes limited.  Mr. Tim Smith in the Technology Department can help further in this respect.

"How much lunch money would you recommend for school lunches?"

For the hot dish of the day from the school canteen, and a small drink - students should bring £1.75.  A filled roll, drink and yoghurt is approximately £2.00.

"If my child has a doctor's or dentist's appointment in town, are they allowed to leave school unattended?"

No.  No student is allowed to leave school without the written or verbal permission of the parent/carer.  Written permission can be by way of letter or a note in the student's planner.  For students in Years 7, 8 and 9, it is preferred that parents/carers meet the student in the school reception area and escort them to the appointment.

"What is plagiarism"

As you will be aware GCSE syllabuses require students to submit coursework, much of which is completed at home.  In view of this, parents and students should be aware of the exam board's regulation on plagiarism.

Plagiarism is to take the work or an idea of someone else
and pass it off as one's own

The WJEC understands plagiarism to be the presentation by a candidate of others' work as if it were his or her own (i.e. without clearly identifying and specifying a source), whether it be a sentence, a paragraph or a complete assignment.  The term can also be used to describe the amendment of source material by changing certain words, whilst retaining the structure of the original.  The source may be (but is not limited to) the internet, the printed word, or a classmate.  It is an example of examination malpractice.

Penalties:
Each candidate is required to sign the declaration on the cover sheet, confirming that the work in the folder is their own.  Therefore, any folder where plagiarism is suspected will be referred to the Malpractice Committee and the centre informed.  If the case is provded, the mark for the whole folder (not just the piece in question) may be discounted, and further penalities considered.

If you have any further queries regarding the above, please contact the relevant department in school.
